Crochet Hat
A few days ago I made a corespun, then coiled yarn, of merino bamboo blend in rainbow colours. I thought it was quite a pretty yarn, and wanted to crochet something with it! This is what I came up with.
So my crochet skills are not megalithic, but I figured out I could start with a chain circle, which I crocheted into enough times to make an approximate circle, then I just kept adding rows of treble crochet (I think!) and in each row crocheting three into every other stich with a chain between the groups of trebles, so it turned into a nice flat saucer! I occasionally did a row of single crochet too, for variety.. Then I started reducing, crocheting into every other stitch, until it fit my head! At that point I did a part row, about half way around, then turned and did the next row over that, reducing again in places to make a kind of ‘peak’. It might not have been completely successful! But it sits on the head comfortably, and it has a nice open weave look to it that I like, showing off the colours just fine.
I had my daughter model it for me, she is lucky to be able to wear pretty much any kind of hat. Me, I dont suit hats, but I do like to wear them too 🙂
It is trebles in NZ speak, but I think the Americans call it double crochet.
Oh that’s it then Glynis, thank you! My mum taught me to crochet so she must have also used the non American terms. And my recollection of any of it is well faded 😛
gorgeous piece!
Or treble crochet, I mean O.o
I am starting to think I might have meant double crochet.. all the terms mix me up, I need to get like a crochet dictionary or something! Its yarn over, pull through one, put through two, pull through two. Probably I meant double, cos treble would be yarn over twice?? *brain bleed*
Haha! I only know some terms in Dutch, so I’m no help 😉
Haha! Well, I only know the terms in Dutch, so I’m no help 😉
Well, you described it pretty thoroughly, so you can just copy that 🙂 what do you mean by triple crochet?
You know, it’s so weird, I was telling you the other day about the jacket and dress I want to someday try to crochet. I was just yesterday thinking it would be a good idea to try to make a hat first! So this has given me the right kick in the pants to actually do that, too 😀
The yarn came out quite unusual! Its coiled around a cotton core so its not stretchy, it actually feels and drapes like a cotton yarn, it made a really nice weighted floppy hat 🙂 I should have written the pattern down as I can make it again! doh!
I love it! I have to try that! It’s a thicker yarn, right? It looks really supple!
